Island GIS, the leading independent GIS (Geographic Information Systems) consultancy and provider of innovative and integrated geospatial solutions for the energy and utilities industries based in Edinburgh, was awarded last week the Innovation and Best Practice (Private Sector) Award at the Association of Geographic Information.
The annual AGI awards exist to recognise excellence within the UK GI industry and to help promote and foster a spirit of innovation. The award is seen as an excellent opportunity for people operating within the industry to be recognised for exceptional work that they have done.
The award submission focused on Island GIS’s work with Scottish and Southern Energy on the Beauly Denny project, which involved developing a web based service was developed to contain multiple spatial data layers. Groups of layers were customized for construction, infrastructure, ecology, archaeology, health and safety sources, issues and sensitivities, to help manage project critical communication constraints. Specifically the service considered 599 sites, 276km of access track and provided live and up to date information to 460 people via a range of technology platforms, whenever needed.
Paul Edmunds, CEO of Island GIS commented “the team at Island GIS are extremely proud to have won this industry leading award and it is testament to both their hard work and an extremely collaborative relationship we have with our clients”.
Chris Meek, Lead Environmental Manager (Construction) at Scottish and Southern Energy said “Island GIS worked with us to develop the platform for the Beauly Denny OHL project and provided us with the access, support and expertise without which, there would have been a significant negative impact from an environmental, financial, legal, programming and reputational perspective. I am delighted for the team at Island GIS to receive industry recognition for their role and positive impact on this project with SSE”.
AGI - The UK Geospatial Membership Body
The Mission of the AGI is to maximise the use of geographic information (GI) for the benefit of the citizen, good governance and commerce.
The AGI exists to represent the interests of the UK's GI industry; a wide-ranging group of public and private sector organisations, suppliers of GI software, hardware, data and services, consultants, academics and interested individuals. The AGI, by way of its unique membership forum, brings together this previously disparate GI community to share ideas on best practice, experience and innovation, and offers access to unparalleled networking opportunities with significant business benefits. As such it acts on behalf of the community as whole. Since its formal inception in 1989, it has built up a significant membership base and established itself as the respected voice in GI and is the membership body for everyone with an interest or involvement with GI.Share on Twitter Share on Facebook Share on Google+
